Navigation: Use the System choice under the Settings menu located in the header of the product to navigate to the Basic Configuration Settings screen. The advanced settings for Space Reclamation Options are located in the Advanced tab of the screen.
The Space Reclamation feature identifies areas on a file system that are no longer in use and provides this information to the storage sub-system so that its thin provisioning, data deduplication and other advanced dynamic storage features can take advantage of this information.
Use the radio buttons in this section to control how space reclamation identifies areas for reclamation on your system. The available options are:
Notify Storage Manager of unused drive areas - If the Space Reclamation option to Notify Storage Manager of Unused drive areas is selected, Diskeeper will issue SCSI UNMAP or ATA TRIM commands to let the storage system make this space available and potentially reclaim it for use. The storage sub-system must support SCSI UNMAP or ATA TRIM to gain this benefit.
Mark clusters for reclamation by zeroing out blocks - If the Space Reclamation option to Mark clusters for reclamation by zeroing out blocks is selected, Diskeeper writes zeros to the unused area. For storage sub-systems that support this, it allows a separate function of Diskeeper to be used to make this space potentially available.
Use both methods to mark clusters for reclamation
